The Boydtown Shipyard has entered in to a sponsorship arrangement with Eden Marine High School to begin building wooden boats at the School.
The common objective is to teach boat building skills and ultimately provide boats that can be rowed by students and or community members in rowing competitions in an international rowing class, viz St Ayles Skiffs. The Australian Coastal Rowing Associations currently conducts such competitions. At some future date it might be possible to host such a competition and resume the Eden Regatta which was last held in 1938 on the Broadwater.
We have underwriten the first complete kit at a cost if $10,000 and building commenced at the start of term 1 in 2021. School building sessions are held weekly and experienced boat-builders are invited to mentor small groups of students. The goal is to ensure that the skiff is available for use by the school and the wider community.
